Third place readies Epke for worlds
Up-and-coming squash player Ellie Epke is proving she has what it takes on the court by finishing third in the women’s draw at the North Island Squash Championships in Cambridge.
The Eden Epsom Squash Club 15-year-old claimed a 12-10 11-3 11-9 win over club-mate Joanna Shanks.
Shanks will be returning to Auckland empty handed after top seed Joelle King got the better of her in the semifinals, cruising to an 11-8 11-0 11-7 victory.
King had earlier downed New Zealand junior representative and Eden Epsom Squash Club player Hayley Hughes in four sets.
The tournament was great preparation for Epke who is one of four players heading to the World Junior Girls Squash Championships from July 16 in Poland.
