Teenage musicians are being offered a shot at the big time with the Secondary Schools National Songwriter Awards back for another year.
There are $4000 in prizes including a chance to attend an intensive twoday song writing and performance workshop hosted by the New Zealand School of Music.
The winner will also get a shot at the National Songwriter Supreme Award along with a professionally produced single of their original song.
As well, the supreme winner will be invited to perform two original songs on stage at the Maidment Theatre in October.
One of last year’s winners was Takapuna Grammer School student Petra Bullock who has gone on to perform at the Beehive, Auckland Viaduct and Bruce Mason Centre.
The School of Music is accepting YouTube entries from all secondary school students nationwide. Entries close July 19. For more information visit national songwriter.co.nz.
