Performance on wheels

Central Leader - - NEWS -

A performance on wheels wowed audiences at J Rock.

Students from Kohia Terrace School took to the stage in wheelchairs for part of their act at the event on July 3.

J Rock is a primary and intermediate school version of the Stage Challenge.

Twelve-year-old Kohia Terrace School student Claudia Chaney relies on a wheelchair so her ablebodied classmates joined her in their own for one of the dances, as reported in the Central Leader, July 3.

Teacher Helen Martin says the idea came from the television show Glee.

The theme for the student’s performance was fitting in at a new school.

J Rock is non-competitive but the school received awards for soundtrack, drama, choreography, and performance.

Show hit: Claudia Chaney, centre, and her Kohia Terrace School classmates perform their wheelchair dance at J Rock.
