Bacon and ham in line for prizes
Butchers are waiting to hear who has been judged as the country’s best bacon and ham maker.
The 100% NZ Bacon and Ham Competition celebrates butchers and retailers who make bacon and ham from trusted PigCare accredited New Zealand pork.
PigCare is the New Zealand pork industry’s welfare accreditation programme that ensures pigs are farmed humanely.
compe- tition has attracted 200 entries from around the country including Nosh Food Market’s Black Rock Butchery in Greenlane.
Today a panel of 33 judges made up of leading chefs, food connoisseurs, and master butchers has convened in Wellington to determine who is the best of the best.
Gold, silver, and bronze medallists will be announced on August 8 while the Ham Of the Year will be announced in October.
