Gram­mar Carl­ton are prov­ing they are a big threat for rugby’s pre­mier league Gal­la­her Shield with a 20-11 win over Col­lege Ri­fles in the quar­ter­fi­nals on July 20.

The 2012 Gal­la­her Shield cham­pi­ons didn’t get off to the start they would have liked this sea­son, los­ing to Sub­urbs in round one. But since then they have pro­duced some huge per­for­mances, none more so than against their quar­ter­fi­nal op­po­nents.

They will face Paku­ranga at Bell Park on Satur­day.

In their play­off for the Por­tola Tro­phy, Eden man­aged a 24-13 win over East Ta­maki and go head-to-head with Otahuhu at Grib­ble­hirst Park on Satur­day. Gal­la­her Shield play­off re­sults: Gram­mar Carl­ton 20 (S Watkins, O Tu’un­gafasi tries, S Hickey 2 con, 2 pen)
