A former British soap star is helping to propel three musician siblings into the spotlight.

Mt Albert indie rock band The Neo-Kalashnikovs, made up of siblings Volita, Gabriel and Moss Bioletti, has been creating a splash in the United Kingdom after featuring former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan in the music video for their track Gorgeous Baby.

The four-minute video features the 22-year-old scantily-clad star lip-syncing the lyrics of the song.

It was quickly picked up by the British media last month and has since racked up more than 600,000 views.

The band’s drummer Moss says they had no idea the video would create such a stir.

‘‘I definitely didn’t think it would go viral so it was really awesome to see everyone watching it in the UK.’’

Ms Flanagan, who played wildchild Rosie Webster in the longrunning soap, became involved with the video after Moss coldcalled her agent who passed on the track to her.

She loved the song and immediately agreed to star in the video, Moss says.

Lead singer Volita then flew over to London to help co-ordinate the shoot, which took less than three hours to fit in with Ms Flanagan’s schedule.

Ms Flanagan told the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper that she has struck up a great friendship with the band.

‘‘I hope that by being involved the band gets the recognition they deserve and hit the big time so we can make more music videos,’’ she says.

The video has opened up some great opportunities to work with artists on cult indie labels in the United States, Moss says.

‘‘Like Sub Pop Records who are home to the Flight of the Conchords, as well as being Nirvana’s label earlier in their career.

‘‘Both bands had a big impact on us through their music and success.’’

The band is now working on gaining sponsorship to upgrade its equipment before preparation can begin for an upcoming tour of New Zealand, Australia, Japan, the UK and the US.

Their next single Turn the Tables is due to hit the airwaves in New Zealand today.
