Marking a milestone
The Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum will be marking its 20th birthday this weekend with celebrations both on and off the water.
On Monday it will be two decades since the museum opened its doors to the public on the Waitemata Harbour.
To mark the occasion, volunteers and Friends of the Museum have compiled a 20 Treasures: 20 Years trail which highlights the museum’s vision to preserve and share New Zealand’s rich maritime heritage.
Olympic yachtsman Glen Sowry, Waterfront Auckland chairman Sir Bob Harvey and solo Tasman rower Shaun Quincey have each chosen an object with a special meaning to them.
The story behind the 20 items will be documented in a brochure and guides will be on hand to answer questions about them.
