Low planes

Central Leader - - NEWS -

I see that a correspondent ( Central Leader, August 14) mentions me in the context of a perceived lack of interest by council in the current trial of flight paths.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

As the parent of a two-year old, I can well attest to what happens when jumbo jets fly so low overhead at 4.55am (to cite a recent example) that you can hear the landing gear being lowered above the din of the engines. End of sleep. So I was amongst the first to sign the petition by the Auckland The Plane Truth Action Group, and I posted links to the group’s Facebook page and petition on my own Facebook page.

I will be working to get representation on the Aircraft Noise Community Consultative Group for my local board and in other ways to stop the trial or ensure an acceptable outcome.

For me this is not simply a case of nimbyism.

People like me decided to live in our area because of the high amenity values, amongst other things, and paid more accordingly.

The treatment of the public over the course of this trial leaves a lot to be desired.
