Footballer’s chance to play Europe
Three Kings United defender Abby Erceg is lining up to show her skills in one of the strongest football leagues in the world after signing with a European club.
The New Zealand women’s football captain has signed a one-year deal with German club USV Jena where she will play with Football Ferns team-mates Ria Percival and Amber Hearn.
Erceg has virtually been an ever-present in the national side since her debut in 2006.
She has already played a season in Europe for Spanish Superliga giants Espanyol.
‘‘It’s something that I knew I always wanted to do, to go to the best leagues in the world and play overseas. That I get to do that is very exciting,’’ she says.
‘‘It will be great to be able to learn from the players and will be a great challenge for me.’’
