School art auction showcases talent
Art created by high school students and staff will be going under the hammer tomorrow night.
Mt Albert Grammar School is holding its eighth annual auction to raise money to assist the growth of the visual arts department.
The event showcases the ‘‘tremendous artistic talent of our visual arts students and gives these up-and-coming young artists the opportunity to exhibit to the public and to gain some welldeserved recognition for their talents’’, a spokeswoman from the school says.
Students have been involved in the whole process from brainstorming artistic ideas and promotion to working as waiters and auction spotters on the night.
They also benefit from the auction by receiving 50 per cent of the money from the sale of their work.
Art works can viewed from 5pm.
Twenty-five major paintings will be auctioned from 7pm, with an additional 50 pieces being offered in the silent auction that runs from 5pm to 6.45pm.
A cash bar will be available and complimentary canapes.
The MAGS Annual Art Auction is at Mt Albert Grammar, Alberton Ave.
Tickets cost $5 and are available at the door.
