Teacher leaves 60-year career
Mt Roskill Primary School staff and students are saying goodbye to a much loved teacher.
Octogenarian Regine MacBean will leave the school at the end of the term.
Mrs MacBean graduated from Auckland Teacher’s Training College in 1953.
She has more than 60 years of teaching experience and has been with Mt Roskill Primary School for more than 25 years. She is head of the school’s ESOL team.
Mrs MacBean’s colleagues say the most special thing about her is the passion and energy she brings to the job.
‘‘She is a great role model to her colleagues and has always been a stickler for good values and manners,’’ Jo Franklin says.
Over the years, Mrs MacBean has worked with hundreds of children to develop and polish their literacy skills.
It is little wonder the staff have affectionately coined the term ‘‘regined’’ in reference to her influence on pupils.
They say the children in her care are ‘‘regined’’ into students with beautiful manners, values and a love of learning.
Fond farewell: Regine MacBean will be retiring from teaching after a 60-year career.
