For more than 40 years now, Meatrenz has been a tried and trusted local butchery to the St Heliers community, largely due to its long standing team of dedicated butchers and the supreme quality of its meat.
After 35 years at Meatrenz, Peter Hayward, who has been the current owner for the past few years, will be stepping down and leaving the shop in the hands of German couple Sabine Kienle and Roland Hensel.
Eddie and the boys will still be there to greet regulars and provide the same professional service that has kept regulars coming back for so many years.
Sabine and Roland appreciate the old kiwi saying ‘‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’’ and therefore will be doing very little to change the shop’s range of outstanding quality New Zealand meat and superb meal ideas.
They will however be complimenting the existing selection with a range of traditional German sausages, which will be made by their very own ‘Metzgermeister’ (master butcher), plus some European classics like the famous Spanish Chorizo.
The sausages are made using specialised German machinery to ensure not only excellent quality, but to guarantee the correct variations in texture. Shop manager Olivia says the sausages offer ‘the best of both worlds’ as they are made from a mixture of free range venison, New Zealand lamb and authentic herbs and spices from Germany.
If you are heading away to the batch this summer or out on the boat for a long weekend, the shop offers a fantastic ‘boat pack’ service, whereby the team can have all your meat for the trip vacuum packed, chilled and ready to pick up before you go.
The shop’s German sausage range will be taking off more so in the new year, so watch this space for some delicious new products.
