For more than 40 years now, Meatrenz has been a tried and trusted lo­cal butch­ery to the St He­liers com­mu­nity, largely due to its long stand­ing team of ded­i­cated butch­ers and the supreme qual­ity of its meat.

Af­ter 35 years at Meatrenz, Peter Hay­ward, who has been the cur­rent owner for the past few years, will be step­ping down and leav­ing the shop in the hands of Ger­man cou­ple Sabine Kienle and Roland Hensel.

Ed­die and the boys will still be there to greet regulars and pro­vide the same pro­fes­sional ser­vice that has kept regulars com­ing back for so many years.

Sabine and Roland ap­pre­ci­ate the old kiwi say­ing ‘‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’’ and there­fore will be do­ing very lit­tle to change the shop’s range of out­stand­ing qual­ity New Zealand meat and su­perb meal ideas.

They will how­ever be com­pli­ment­ing the ex­ist­ing se­lec­tion with a range of tra­di­tional Ger­man sausages, which will be made by their very own ‘Met­zger­meis­ter’ (mas­ter butcher), plus some Euro­pean clas­sics like the fa­mous Span­ish Chorizo.

The sausages are made us­ing spe­cialised Ger­man ma­chin­ery to en­sure not only ex­cel­lent qual­ity, but to guar­an­tee the cor­rect vari­a­tions in tex­ture. Shop man­ager Olivia says the sausages of­fer ‘the best of both worlds’ as they are made from a mix­ture of free range veni­son, New Zealand lamb and au­then­tic herbs and spices from Ger­many.

If you are head­ing away to the batch this sum­mer or out on the boat for a long weekend, the shop of­fers a fan­tas­tic ‘boat pack’ ser­vice, whereby the team can have all your meat for the trip vac­uum packed, chilled and ready to pick up be­fore you go.

The shop’s Ger­man sausage range will be tak­ing off more so in the new year, so watch this space for some de­li­cious new prod­ucts.
