Little batteries and toy parts can cause children a lot of harm. Adults should keep this in mind when doing their Christmas shopping this year, Safekids New Zealand says. Injuries caused by coin-sized lithium or button batteries, contained in many toys and musical cards, is an emerging issue. In the last three years, the National Poisons Centre received 175 calls about children under six years swallowing or inserting batteries in their nose and ears.
