Prescriptions on the rise
Doctors will be issuing more Aucklanders with Green Prescriptions in another push for people to lead healthy lifestyles.
More than 85,000 people will receive support over the next four years encouraging them to get active and eat healthier after a $7.2 million government investment in the initiative.
The programme sees health professionals prescribe patients with a Green Prescription mak- ing them eligible for support and advice through phone calls, face-to-face contact or activity groups. It was first introduced in 1998.
A survey by the Ministry of Health reports the scheme has helped thousands of people improve their health.
Health Minister Tony Ryall says 60 per cent of people are now spending more time being active and 65 per cent have made positive changes to their diet.
