Youngsters with dreams of a future in athletics are heading north for the national junior athletics championships this weekend. Nearly 2000 children aged 7 to 14 will compete in the Colgate Games this weekend in Whangarei and next weekend in Timaru. The competition was the launching pad for Olympic medallist Nick Willis. Among the competitors are 28 athletes from Roskill South Amateur Athletic Club and 13 from Hillsborough Junior Athletics Club. Four outstanding performers in each event will be presented with a Nick Willis Scholarship including a donation to put towards sports gear, coaching and other resources to help them towards their athletics goals.
