Quitline discovers big savings

Central Leader - - NEWS -

Former smokers who stubbed out their habit have managed to save $400,000.

More than 100 people took part in Quitline’s Quit Stats Count-up on February 1 to discover how much money they had saved since quitting.

They posted details of how many days they had been smokefree and the number of cigarettes or amount of loose tobacco they had not smoked.

Collectively the participants saved $410,199 as a result of not smoking 609,135 cigarettes and 75,204 grams of tobacco.

The cost of tobacco is one of the main reasons why people decide to quit, Quitline chief executive Paula Snowden says.

‘‘Smoking is expensive and the savings quickly add up,’’ she says.
