Residents of an area targeted by burglars are being thanked by police for their help. Belfast St and Fredrick St, Hillsborough, came to police attention after a run of burglaries and reports of suspicious behaviour in the area in recent weeks. There were reports of a man knocking on people’s door purportedly looking for a lost puppy, Mt Roskill Community Policing Team Sergeant James Cassin says. On Tuesday a man called to say a house alarm was going off on Goodall St and a number of other residents reported seeing two suspicious-looking men running across properties. A 29-year-old West Auckland man was arrested and is facing charges of burglary, threatening to kill, and possession of an offensive weapon. Mr Cassin says the arrest was a collective effort between police and the community.
