Auckland City FC’s academy squad remains well on course to claim a grand final spot in the ASB National Youth League after scoring solid victories on Thursday and Saturday.

The wins put City within five points of taking out the Northern Conference.

First half goals from Regont Murati, Thomas Konusi and Tinashe Marowa earned City a 3-0 win against bottom-placed Hawkes Bay United on Waitangi Day.

The team followed up with a 6-1 trouncing of NZ Wanderers at Seddon Fields two days later.

A strike by Tinashe Morawa in first-half stoppage time afforded City the initial advantage but Wanderers’ Ninos Eshow scored just four minutes into the second spell.

Within 15 minutes City’s Sam Brotherton, Nicolas Zambrano and Thomas Konusi had established City’s superiority on the scoreboard and another two goals from Brotherton bolstered the team’s immense goal difference.

Auckland City’s academy squad take on WaiBOP United at John Kerkhof Park on Saturday.
