Give curling a tryout
Kiwis keen on curling will have a chance to find out more about the game from an Olympic medallist next month.
New Zealand Curling will host Canadian skip Cheryl Bernard at clinics in Auckland during early March as a part of the World Curling Federation’s Olympic Celebration Tour.
Bernard and her team won Olympic silver in Vancouver four years ago.
The sport can be compared to bowls on ice.
New Zealand Curling Association chairman Sam Inder says the Canadian’s visit will benefit current curlers and newcomers.
Experienced New Zea- land curlers including members of the 2006 Olympic side will be at the venues to help out.
‘‘This is a wonderful opportunity for Kiwis to give curling a try and for those who already play the sport to rub shoulders and pick up tips from one of the best.
‘‘These clinics have something for everyone – from first-timers, to those who have been playing for a while, through to aspiring Olympians.’’
Interested people are invited to attend the sessions on March 2 or March 9 at Paradice Ice Rink in Avondale.
