The Mt Roskill electorate’s oldest constituent celebrated her 102nd birthday on Saturday.

Evelyn Munn (nee Witt) marked the occasion on Saturday with her family in her Hillsborough rest home and was visited by Mt Roskill MP Phil Goff.

‘‘Evelyn has had a remarkable life,’’ Mr Goff says.

‘‘She was born in a small English village near Stonehenge before the First World War when life was totally different. The motor vehicle had only just started replacing the horse.’’

Mrs Munns met her husband Lou during World War II and married in 1941.

The family migrated to Auckland in the late 1950s and ran two businesses in the city.

‘‘Today Evelyn lives peacefully in Hillsborough with frequent visits and loving care from her daughter Sarah,’’ Mr Goff says.

‘‘She still has a healthy appetite and speaks with a beautiful English accent.’’
