Fix common problems
What do you like best about Hillsborough?
You have a very peaceful life here. It’s quiet, you have good neighbours and a lot of shops nearby. How long have you lived here and where are you from originally?
I’m from India and I’ve been in Auckland since 2001.
I moved from Mt Roskill to Hillsborough in 2005. What do you like least and how can we change it?
The traffic and public transport.
The buses are OK but trains need to be more connected to different suburbs so that people can use public transport instead of driving every time. Where’s the best place to buy dinner in the area?
If you drive ten minutes you can get to Mt Roskill which is a restaurant hub.
I recommend India Gate on Manukau Rd. They have a very good setup and the food is delicious and authentic. And who does the best fish’n chips?
I don’t know around here but I like Fish Pot Cafe in Mission Bay.
It’s a very famous place and the fish’n chips are lovely and fresh. Who is the Kiwi you admire most – why?
Edmund Hillary, he’s a legend, and Richard Hadlee. He’s one of the cricketers who I used to admire from here.
I was also a cricketer and he was very skilful and bowled so well. If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d . . .
try to fix all the problems of the common man. Housing and transport especially.
To live you need shelter and you also need good public transport because not everyone can afford a car. When I’ve got a free few hours I like to . . .
exercise and do gardening.
I go for a walk or a jog a couple of times a week.
I also coach cricket to young children on Sundays. The spot in Hillsborough I’d recommend to
some tourists is . . .
Monte Cecilia Park. It’s very nice area. It has Pah Homestead on it, a beautiful old building and it’s surrounded by gardens.
