Ideas wanted

If you’ve got a great idea to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill Auckland Council wants to hear from you.

The Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund opens on April 1 for small grants of up to $5000.

The fund was set up as part of council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan which was adopted in June 2012.

Solid Waste manager Ian Stupple says the small grants are for organisations with projects that can be established soon and make a difference.

Projects that have already received small grants include reusable nappy schemes, waste systems in schools to separate organic waste, rubbish and recycling, and a furniture from wooden pallets project.

Applicants must meet at least half the cost of the project themselves.

April’s funding round closes 4pm April 30.

Grants of up to $50,000 for more complex projects will be considered in October.
