A student has been traumatised after a man confronted her and performed an obscene act.

The incident happened on the Woodward Rd to Benfield Ave walkway in Mt Albert around 3.40pm last Wednesday, Detective Sergeant Rick Veacock says.

‘‘The victim was approached by a male on the walkway who initially asked her where a toilet was before he dropped his pants and performed an indecent act in front of her.’’

The student ran away and the incident was reported to police. He says the student was ‘‘ a little bit traumatised’’ but unharmed.

Veacock says the man is European, in his mid-30s, 1.8 metres tall and of medium to fat build. He was clean shaven, blonde but balding on top. He was wearing a blue short-sleeve top with a logo.

He spoke with a New Zealand accent and wore creamcoloured shorts. CCTV footage in the area is being reviewed. Veacock says a white SUV was parked on Benfield Ave around the time of the incident.

‘‘The male driver is seen walking toward the walkway before going out of sight. He returns within a short time frame and leaves in the white coloured SUV vehicle. This male driver could possibly assist this inquiry.’’

Anyone who recognises the SUV driver can call Detective Sergeant Rick Veacock at the Avondale police station on 820 5700.

Analyse this: Police wish to speak to the driver of this white SUV, seen on Benfield Ave last Wednesday.
