Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that combines selfdefence and judo techniques with grappling and ground fighting.

It was derived from Japanese martial art Kodokan Judo in the early 1900s and is now one of the fastest growing martial arts in the world.

The art promotes the idea that smaller people can successfully defend themselves against stronger attackers by using proper techniques, leverage and taking the fight to the ground.

Competitors win matches on points or by forcing their opponent into submission.
