Walker loves ‘villagey’ feel

Central Leader - - NEWS -

What do you like best about Mt Eden?

It really has a villagey feel. I love walking up Mt Eden and Big King Reserve. There are lots of cafes around and down the end of Dominion Rd there are so many Asian eateries. I just walk everywhere on the weekends. We’ll walk to the Capitol Cinema to watch a movie. How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I’ve lived in Mt Eden for a year. Before that I’ve lived in Takapuna, Mt Albert and Pt Chevalier. I’m originally from South Africa but have lived in Auckland for 10 years. What do you like least and how can we fix it? Dominion Rd needs a bit of work and TLC. Although there has been a flyer that’s come round from Auckland Council that there is an upgrade project happening and we can all make submissions. And that’s really good because it needs it. Where’s the best place to buy dinner in Mt Eden?

One of my favourites would probably be DePost [Belgian Beer Cafe] if I’m meeting the girls because it’s quite casual. Who is the Kiwi you admire the most – and why?

I guess I would have to say John Key and the current Government for managing to get New Zealand through the global economic crisis virtually unscathed. If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d . . .

Put together a strategic plan to sort out the road infrastructure and the traffic issues. I use public transport because if I drive to the CBD from Mt Eden sometimes it takes me an hour. It’s just ridiculous. I’m only 5km away but Dominion Rd is just nuts in the morning. When I’ve got a free few hours I like to . . .

Clean. I actually like cleaning. The spot in Mt Eden I’d recommend to tourists is . . .

Mt Eden itself. There’s beautiful views from up there.
