Price of water to rise by 4c

Central Leader - - NEWS -

Water is about to cost you more.

For the first time in two years, Watercare will increase the price of its water and wastewater services from July 1.

Chief financial officer Brian Monk says this increase will see the average household’s combined water and wastewater charges rise by less than $2 per month.

Cost savings have allowed the company to delay price increases until now, Monk says.

‘‘Almost two-thirds of our spending goes towards capital assets – the infrastructure and equipment we need to provide Aucklanders with continued access to high quality water and wastewater services – while the balance goes on operating costs.

‘‘We have seen cost increases in both these areas and our new prices reflect those increases.’’

Watercare’s customers are now looking at paying an extra four cents per 1000 litres of water.

Domestic customers will pay six cents more per 1000 litres and fixed wastewater charges will rise by $5 per year.
