Save the Children has released its 15th annual State of the World’s Mothers Report, revealing the best and toughest places to be a mum. New Zealand is placed in the top 20 – coming in at 16th on the list, up from 17th position last year. Finland, Norway and Sweden came in at numbers one, two and three this year, with Australia, also polling ahead of New Zealand at ninth on the list. The worst places to be a mother were Somalia, which ranked last at 178, behind the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 177 and Mali and Niger – both placed at 175. The ranking looks at factors such as a mother’s health, education and economic status, as well as critical child indicators such as health and nutrition.
