Students from St Cuthbert’s College, Epsom Girls Grammar and Diocesan School for Girls, have made it into the National Chamber Music Contest finals. The groups are Katalyze Quintet (St Cuthbert’s College) and Exaudio (featuring students from Epsom Girls Grammar School and Diocesan School for Girls). Applachian Octet (Diocesan School for Girls) was awarded the National Award for the Best Performance of a New Zealand Work. The octet of two violins, viola, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon and piano performed Kiwi in Appalachia by Ryan Youens (inspired by Copland). The finals will be held in Christchurch in August.
