New season starts
Touch Compass Dance Company is preparing for another season of inspiring new works.
Acquisitions ’14 features three segments and has a week-long season at Q Theatre in Auckland from August 6 to 10.
Curated by artistic director Catherine Chappell, the production combines film and live dance performances.
Touch Compass is New Zealand’s first inclusive dance company and has been acclaimed internationally for its work with disabled and nondisabled dancers.
Tess Connell has been involved with Touch Compass since she was 12. The Three Kings resident has also featured in two film projects with the company.
Also involved is Georgie Goater from Mt Albert, who is co-founder of award-winning dance company BackLit Productions.
Since starting the company, she’s been active in the Auckland dance community. The first work is Undertide – a film and live performance by award-winning New Zealand and United States choreographers Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad.
The second work is Watching Windows, a new piece created by Chappell and the company dancers. It explores how bodies, objects and moments are hidden and revealed in a journey of discovery.
The third instalment is an interactive DanceBox project, which will take over the Q Theatre Loft foyer throughout the season.
Tickets can be booked at qtheatre.co.nz or by phoning 309 9771.
