Block­house Bay col­lects Scar­bro Caro Bowl

Per­se­ver­ance has paid off for Block­house Bay Ten­nis club who took out the men’s Scar­bro Caro Bowl on Fri­day night.

After fin­ish­ing run­ners-up for the last three years the boys from the bay beat Par­nell in front of a home crowd of around 400 sup­port­ers.

New Zealand No 1 Michael Venus and Finn Tear­ney opened the ac­count for Par­nell win­ning their dou­bles match in straight sets. Block­house Bay an­swered straight back with Justin Me­graw and Vic­tor Romero de­feat­ing Mark Neilsen and Steven Downs.

Par­nell won the first two sin­gles en­coun­ters with Block­house Bay win­ning the third, leav­ing the re­sult up to the fi­nal match be­tween Romero and Neilsen.

The de­cid­ing match went into a dra­matic tie break with Romero need­ing to win in straight sets to seal the ti­tle for the Bay.

Romero went on to clinch the tie breaker 10-8.

Sun­ny­hills Ten­nis Club took home the women’s di­vi­sion beat­ing Par­nell 4-2 in the fi­nal.
