Blockhouse Bay collects Scarbro Caro Bowl
Perseverance has paid off for Blockhouse Bay Tennis club who took out the men’s Scarbro Caro Bowl on Friday night.
After finishing runners-up for the last three years the boys from the bay beat Parnell in front of a home crowd of around 400 supporters.
New Zealand No 1 Michael Venus and Finn Tearney opened the account for Parnell winning their doubles match in straight sets. Blockhouse Bay answered straight back with Justin Megraw and Victor Romero defeating Mark Neilsen and Steven Downs.
Parnell won the first two singles encounters with Blockhouse Bay winning the third, leaving the result up to the final match between Romero and Neilsen.
The deciding match went into a dramatic tie break with Romero needing to win in straight sets to seal the title for the Bay.
Romero went on to clinch the tie breaker 10-8.
Sunnyhills Tennis Club took home the women’s division beating Parnell 4-2 in the final.
