No doubt there will be the predictable outcry from tourist bus operators and locals over the impending ban on all motor vehicles on our several maunga by the new authority charged with overall new management of the many presently poorly protected peaks.
Sadly, much damage has already been made by both locals and international visitors.
It will take years and years of professional attention to address the corrosive effects humans have made.
These are truly volcanic treasures – but mountain bikes and even cyclists – along with walkers, have treated all these historic maunga with much disrespect.
The ignored Mt Eden management plan alone stated that the damage already made restoration remedies a crippling human and also a financial task to stem, let alone stop the damages.
