Overseas visitors to Auckland exceeded two million for the first time ever in 2014. Statistics New Zealand results show 2,029,568 international arrivals to the city last year. It’s an increase of five per cent on the previous year. The annual growth includes a 14 per cent increase in arrivals from China, a 11.6 per cent increase from Germany, and a 10.4 per cent increase from the United States. International guest nights in the city are now at more than three million, and Auckland hotels had an occupancy rate at 82 per cent for 2014. Auckland’s aim is to double the visitor economy from $4.8 billion in 2012 to $7.2 billion annually in 2021.
