Promise of robot heaven for budding engineers
Many Auckland students are busy preparing machines they have made from scratch for battle.
The annual VEX Robotics National Championships is on this weekend at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau and the hot favourite is Lynfield College.
More than 50 teams from schools throughout New Zealand will spend the weekend putting into practice many hours of design and training.
The students are set numerous tasks and while attempting to destroy other robots it is against the rules, teams can defend and prevent the opposition from scoring points.
The competition aims to open the doors to possible careers in engineering, science and business.
The national winners will represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Louisville, USA in April.
