New flight paths
Two SMART approaches to Auckland Airport will be used from May 28. The two satellite-guided flight paths to the airport from the north will come into permanent operation and will be available between 7am and 10pm by up to 10 aircraft per day. The decision to implement them was publicly announced by the aviation industry in December last year. It followed a trial and public consultation process. The two flight paths were modified as a result of feedback to reduce aircraft noise, use less fuel and deliver benefits for the environment. A third satellite-guided flight path to Auckland Airport from the northeast has been developed and the trial will begin in September 2015 for up to 12 months. Full details will be published in May.
