Peter Rudd has his own school of rock. Sounds cool doesn’t it? Reporter talked to the music teacher about how his passion became his job.
Peter Rudd has made a career out of sharing his love of music.
‘‘If you’d asked me 10 years ago if I was going to be a music teacher, I would have been like: ‘No way’. But here I am,’’ he says.
The former Kohimarama resident runs the Rudd School of Rock.
He took on his first student a decade ago while he was still performing with his own band, Tourist, which gained attention both locally and overseas.
‘‘I’ve always loved music. I remember going to see Paul McCartney play at Western Springs when I was about 11 years old.
‘‘At the time I was thinking: ‘Who is Paul McCartney’?’’
‘‘Then when I got there I realised, I knew all of the songs.’’
Rudd learned to play the drums when he was 7.
‘‘Pretty soon I wanted to learn guitar because drums are a bit limited in terms of melody and things.’’
