Evans’ wild ride

Triumph and tragedy was the story for Lynfield driver Mitch Evans in Spain over the weekend. Russian Time driver Evans scored his first GP2 podium of the season with second place in the feature race in Spain on May 9. But he was left disappointed when his car encountered engine failure in the sprint race the following day. Evans settled well back into the GP2 cockpit with second place in the practice session at the Circuit de Catalunya. With a solid pace in the afternoon, he qualified fourth for the race with Stoffel Vandoorne clinching pole. Evans was meant to start the feature race on Sunday in seventh place, however the car stopped on his way to the grid and the race was over before it even began. The drama comes after Evans scored a win at his World Endurance Championship debut in Spain in the LMP2 class the week before. Round four of the GP2 takes place in Monte Carlo on May 22 and 23.
