Field fees

Central Leader - - LETTERS -

Isthmus sports clubs are right to feel hard done by, in having to pay fees for sports fields that clubs in other parts of Auckland don’t pay ( Central Leader, May 22).

The assertion of the local and sports parks manager that local boards supported this inequity is incorrect.

Rather, one of our boards was promised in a 2011 report that a study of costs per play was ‘‘nearing completion’’ and that this information ‘‘will help inform pending policy work on sports field user charges, and whether these will be removed totally, or standardised across the region’’.

There was not even a mention of a promised review in the reports to the other boards.

Had we been informed at the time that the clubs in our area were being unfairly charged relative to others, our response would have been exactly as it is now – this must stop!
