The New Zealand Women’s Sev­ens team have had yet an­other suc­cess­ful cam­paign, win­ning their third world ti­tle. Auck­land’s Por­tia Wood­man was named in the Dream Team af­ter New Zealand won the plate fi­nal in Am­s­ter­dam on May 24 – giv­ing them enough cir­cuit points for the over­all ti­tle. New Zealand were beaten in the quar­ter­fi­nals by a des­per­ate Eng­land side, look­ing to earn qual­i­fi­ca­tion for the Rio Olympics on be­half of Great Bri­tain. The Kiwi sev­ens sis­ters first beat Rus­sia 31-5 in the plate semi­fi­nal, and France 35-5 in the fi­nal to claim 12 com­pe­ti­tion points and one last piece of sil­ver­ware be­fore lift­ing the world se­ries ti­tle. Wood­man is the first woman to score 50 or more tries in a women’s world se­ries sea­son, end­ing up with 52 tries in six tour­na­ments.
