The New Zealand Women’s Sevens team have had yet another successful campaign, winning their third world title. Auckland’s Portia Woodman was named in the Dream Team after New Zealand won the plate final in Amsterdam on May 24 – giving them enough circuit points for the overall title. New Zealand were beaten in the quarterfinals by a desperate England side, looking to earn qualification for the Rio Olympics on behalf of Great Britain. The Kiwi sevens sisters first beat Russia 31-5 in the plate semifinal, and France 35-5 in the final to claim 12 competition points and one last piece of silverware before lifting the world series title. Woodman is the first woman to score 50 or more tries in a women’s world series season, ending up with 52 tries in six tournaments.
