DIGGER CRASH CHARGE

Po­lice have charged a 65 year-old Taupo man in re­la­tion to a crash on an Auck­land mo­tor­way. The man was al­legedly driv­ing a truck with a digger on the back, when it smashed into the Penrose over­bridge on May 9. The man has been charged with dan­ger­ous driv­ing and will ap­pear in the Auck­land District Court on June 7. If con­victed, a dan­ger­ous driv­ing charge car­ries amanda­tory dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion pe­riod from driv­ing of six months. It is also pun­ish­able by a ter­mof im­pris­on­ment of up to three months and a pos­si­ble fine of up to $4500.
