Auckland water prices increasing
Water prices would be rising from $1.409 to $1.444 per 1,000 litres from July 1, while wastewater charges for domestic customers would rise by $5 to $205 per year.
The price of Auckland water is going up by 2.5 per cent. Watercare has announced it needs to increase water and wastewater prices to sustain the growth of the Auckland region.
This will increase the average household’s combined water and wastewater charges by around $1.75 per month.
Many factors had caused the increase, Watercare chief executive Raveen Jaduram says, which included a swift rise in construction costs. The renewing of infrastructure across the region and the expansion of developments would be growing Auckland’s population by around a million people in the next 30 years.
To support the growth, Watercare had predicted a $4.9 billion spend on capital investment over the next 10 years.
The company does not make a profit or receive funding from Auckland Council property rates.

To keep up with the growth of Auckland, Watercare will be hiking up the water and wastewater prices.
