FROM THE EDITOR

Central Leader - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - – Julian

We ran a story online last week mentioning some of Auckland’s hardest working politicians.

Before you roll your eyes at the prospect of giving politicians a pat on the back, it’s well worth thinking about.

With the local body elections just around the corner the residents of Auckland have a real say again.

We live in a democratic society, which means the people have the power, right? Wrong. That ship has long since sailed. But once every three years we come the closest to taking a small ounce of power back.

Do your local politicians actually serve your community to the best of their ability? Do they keep their promises?

If they do, then great, vote to keep them in.

If not, here’s your chance to give them the boot.

We had one of the lowest turnouts in the last election. We can do much better this time around.
