What do you think about directing new migrants to the regions? This week Professor Rex

Ahdar from the University of Otago said that this is a feasible option to help remedy the crises of housing, transport and jobs in Auckland. Ahdar argues that if there is going to be an open-door policy on immigrants, then we need the infrastructure to deal with it.

Clearly Auckland is already bulging and I wonder how many potential immigrants think of moving to anywhere but our largest city.

Auckland is marketed as the most attractive prospect.

But is there enough infrastructure elsewhere for them? Definitely for skilled tradesmen etc, but what about doctors and engineers? And if they were sent to Whanganui, Timaru, or wherever, how would we police it?

Or do we cut immigration right back for the next few years?
