An Auckland film director has won two awards at the Doc Edge International Film Festival.

Three Kings resident Susan Parker has been involved in the film industry for 30 years. Her first film, Loving in Limbo, has won awards for Best NZ Director and Best NZ Feature Documentary.

Parker says winning awards was amazing.

‘‘It was a little bit surreal … I sort of forgot all of my speech.’’

The documentary follows Kiwi traveller Hap Cameron and American teacher Mandy Todd over several years of their tumultuous relationship. the Cameron’s story became the obvious choice.

‘‘I really loved his back story,’’ Parker says.

‘‘I said, ‘right, we should film this’. It was important to film before we knew which way the immigration fight was going to go.’’
