CAR THIEF CAUGHT
Police have arrested a prolific thief accused of spending the past two years stealing from unlocked cars parked in garages and driveways in Auckland. The 49-year-old homeless man was arrested on July 20 and charged with aminimum of 54 fraudrelated charges in relation to thefts of credits cards and valuables from cars in Remuera, Epsom and Meadowbank. Ngapuhi Rd in Remuera was targeted a number of times. Police had been on the hunt for the man after he failed to appear in court on fraud charges in February. Sergeant Rhys Smith says the offender allegedly chose unlocked cars so he didn’t need to break windows to get into the vehicle. There have also been reports of laptops and phones allegedly stolen from cars.
