Sunset Retirement Village: All about people
The opening of Bupa Sunset Retirement Village last September couldn’t have come at a better time for Blockhouse Bay residents Mary and John Taylor.
‘‘We were considering our future and how long we could cope with the maintenance of our home,’’ Mary recalls.
‘‘Our daughter had mentioned we should find a place to live while we were still able to choose.’’
At the same time they could see the new Sunset village taking shape: ‘‘We could see it going up from our place,’’ John says.
’’At first we were adamant, we’d not move from our home,’’ says Mary.
‘‘But on second thought we agreed to go up and have a look,’’ adds John.
They liked what they saw immediately; just as importantly they liked what they heard from Bupa Sunset Village management and staff.
They felt it was the right place, there was no need to look elsewhere, and they were still able to live in their neighbourhood.
Not that meeting new friends has been a problem – from day one they’ve found there’s always someone to chat to and socialise with.
‘‘It’s good meeting different people and we all seem to get on together. It’s a different kind of living, and you can choose just how much you want to join in ... but I’d say we’re more content,’’ John says.
The Taylors love having everything at hand and under one roof, and not having to worry about the upkeep of their place.
‘‘It has given me peace of mind knowing that things will get done,’’ Mary says.
She has high praise for Bupa Sunset Village Manager Donna Prince.
‘‘She has made us feel so welcome and at ease. That has been important for me; it makes for a good atmosphere and I’ve made a lot of friends.’’
Bupa Sunset Retirement Village now has only six lovely onebedroom apartments available.
