Boy, 12, ar­rested af­ter rob­beries

Four young boys and a woman have been ar­rested fol­low­ing a se­ries of ag­gra­vated rob­beries at an Auck­land liquor store.

Liquor Leg­ends store on Duke St in Three Kings was robbed on July 20 and 23, and again on Au­gust 30.

Po­lice say they have charged a 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 15-year-olds.

A woman, aged 26, was also in­volved and is re­lated to three of the boys, po­lice said.

The group has been jointly charged with ag­gra­vated rob­bery.

Fol­low­ing the lat­est rob­bery, store owner Jeff Wu said one of his staff mem­bers was al­legedly hit on the head with a wooden stake.

‘‘He got a few smashes at the back of the head,’’ he says.

‘‘The back of his head opened up.’’

Wu said an­other staff mem­ber also re­ceived in­juries to their knee and left eye.

Af­ter weeks of po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions, a num­ber of search war­rants were car­ried out on Tues­day morn­ing in Man­gere, Pa­p­a­toe­toe, Manukau and Mt Roskill.

De­tec­tive Sergeant Neil Hil­ton later ad­vised that five peo­ple had been ar­rested and charged.

Four of the of­fend­ers ap­peared on Tues­day af­ter­noon in the Auck­land Youth Court.

The 12-year-old boy ap­peared on Wed­nes­day.
