An ambulance carrying a patient ploughed into a bus stop opposite Auckland City Hospital, injuring three pedestrians. A witness said the ambulance mounted the footpath and struck a bus shelter on Park Rd in Grafton. The three people received moderate to minor injuries and were taken to Auckland City Hospital by other attending ambulances. St John said staff were at Auckland Hospital supporting these patients. The original patient in the ambulance was uninjured in the crash and was also taken to Hospital for further assessment. ’’The ambulance was carrying an elderly patient on a stretcher - she seemed OK,’’ an eye witness said. St John and police said the cause of the crash was still unknown and investigations were ongoing.
