TRANSPORTWOES

Central Leader - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Intensification in the central isthmus is expected to add to the current traffic woes. The area’s bus network is close to capacity, particularly on the main arterial routes such as Dominion Rd and Mt Eden Rd. Light rail has been floated as an idea for dealing with traffic and public transport woes - with potential routes on Sandringham, Mt Eden and Manukau Roads. Light rail can carry 18,000 people an hour, compared with 2500 people on a bus. However it comes with an estimated $1 billion price tag.
