Police chase ends in accident
A person was seriously injured after a short police chase in Auckland ended when a car carrying five people overturned.
The vehicle was seen driving the wrong way on Hobson St in the CBD at around 3.30am on Monday.
Police tried to stop the car but the driver sped off, resulting in a short police pursuit down the southern motorway.
A police spokeswoman says the vehicle exited the motorway at Gillies Ave, in Epsom, and soon after lost control.
The car, carrying five people, then crashed and overturned.
One person in the car was taken to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition.
Police say the person has since been downgraded to a serious condition.
The other four occupants suffered minor injuries. No other cars were involved.
Police say the male driver of the vehicle is assisting with enquiries. The Serious Crash Unit are investigating.
Auckland Operational Support also attended an accident on Gillies Ave on Monday morning when a station wagon collided with a car at the Epsom Ave intersection.
Two parked cars were sideswiped before the crash.
