Dr Lester chairs three boards
Dr Lester Levy is set to become one of Auckland’s most powerful unelected officials.
He will soon head four major boards in the city.
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman announced on Thursday that Levy will chair all three of Auckland’s district health boards for the next term.
He is already the chair of Auckland Transport as well as the Auckland and Waitemata district health boards.
Come December 5, Levy will take over from Lee Mathias on Counties Manukau Health’s board.
On the announcement, Coleman said the single appointment would increase collaboration across the region.
‘‘As the region grows it’s important to optimise the delivery of health services, manage infrastructure investment and streamline back office functions,’’ he said.
‘‘This change will help ensure Aucklanders, now and into the future, will have access to the best possible care no matter where they live in the region.’’
Coleman said Levy had a ‘‘strong track record’’ on improving health board’s performances and closer working relationships.
He said: ‘‘it makes sense to bring the three greater Auckland DHBs under one chair to facilitate a more integrated approach to Auckland’s health services planning and delivery’’.
Dr Lester’s appointment is said to increase collaboration across the region.
